Project Hexadog ZBD

Robotics and Artificial Intelligence are driving the next industrial revolution, yet the barriers to entry remain incredibly high. Due to steep hardware costs and a distinct lack of entry-level sim2real (simulation-to-reality) solutions, many students, hobbyists, and researchers are discouraged before they even begin.HexaDog ZBD was created to break down those barriers. It is a low-cost, 3D-printed robotics development platform designed to bridge the gap between virtual simulation and physical hardware.Key Features & Ecosystem:Universal Simulation Support: Fully compatible out of the box with industry-standard physics engines and frameworks, including NVIDIA Isaac Sim, ROS2 / Gazebo, and Pybullet.Zero Proprietary Parts: Built entirely with off-the-shelf, globally accessible components that are highly affordable and easy to source in almost any country.Fully Modifiable: The open-source 3D-printed chassis allows users to easily modify the physical structure, adapt it for custom sensors, and design specialized extensions for their specific project needs.By providing a highly capable yet accessible common platform, project HexaDog ZBD aim to enable a global community of creators to seamlessly collaborate, share code, and transfer their real-world robotics experiences.

About the Developer

Hi everyone! My name is Serdar Selim, and I am the independent developer behind HexaDog ZBD and the founder of Printed Robotics.I’ve been a tech and electronics hobbyist my entire life. Like many of you, I was that teenager who built his friends' first PCs and acted as the on-call tech emergency guy for my entire family.A little over a decade ago, we all witnessed the incredible rise of the multi-copter drone scene, where hobbyists from all over the world joined in to innovate together. Recently, upon completing my Master’s studies in Analytics and Applied Machine Intelligence, I wanted to explore the robotics field to practice my skills in neural network development and reinforcement learning. However, I was surprised by how few resources and videos existed for walking robots. I quickly realized that steep hardware costs and limited access to premium components create a massive barrier to entry for hobbyists and students alike—even in high-income countries.Combining my background in building multi-rotor drones with my 3D-modeling skills, I created HexaDog ZBD. My goal is to deliver an affordable, accessible, and simple walking robotics platform that allows anyone passionate about robotics and applied machine learning to finally join in on the fun!
